Giving While Living

We salute perhaps the greatest philanthropist who nobody knew. New Jersey native, Chuck Feeney, created the Duty Free Shops at airports around the world. He was rewarded for his vision by becoming a multi-billionaire when amassing a billion dollars was a rare feat. Mr Feeney never cared much about personal wealth and status. He was the first person of note who created the “giving by living “ concept. In fact, both Warren Buffett and Bill Gates , decided to follow in Chuck Fee

Some stats on giving

A national survey in 2009 discovered that about half of the women surveyed made the family’s decision on which nonprofits to give to and in what amounts. This is consistent with the Let’s Eat donors data where women represent almost 80% of our donors and volunteers. Actually, women are more important to the mission of Let’s Eat than men. We are woman founded and women managed.

The word philanthropist derives from the Greek philanthropus which translates as “love of humankind “ Things have not changed in several millennia. When you give to Let’s Eat, you are really giving to humankind in Greater Baltimore.
